Bangsar is an affluent residential suburb on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, about 4 kilometres southwest of the city centre. Bangsar has is a vibrant place, popular with KL-ites from all over for its wide variety of food joints, watering holes and thrift shops. Residents have grown used to the hive of activity that Bangsar generates, at night-time especially.
Located not too far from the shops is the Bangsar Sports Complex that is equipped with a swimming pool, a multipurpose hall with badminton and squash courts, tennis and basketball courts. The Kuala Lumpur Hockey Stadium is nearby as well and it was the venue for the hockey events during the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games in 1998.
Malaysia’s most established educational institution; University Malaya (UM) is located a mere 5 minutes away from Bangsar. The Maktab Perguruan Raja Muda (Raja Muda Teachers' College) and the Maktab Perguruan Bahasa (Language Teaching College) are also within the vicinity.
Bangsar is less than five kilometres from the Kuala Lumpur city centre. If one chooses to travel by public transportation, Rapids KL’s LRT stations located at Bangsar, Abdullah Hukum, Kerinchi and Universiti LRT stations are nearby. Bangsar is also just a five-minute drive from KL Sentral, the major transportation hub located in neighboring suburb of Brickfields.
